Ten must own DVD limited editions!

The Gates of Hell Statue edition
As a horror fan it's best to familiarize yourself with XT Video as they tend to put out some of the coolest sets imaginable.  This release in particular features a statue inspired by the film's Paura Nella Citta' Del Morti Viventi poster.  Inside the box is a wrap around cardboard display for the statue along with a hardbox and a booklet.  The set is limited to 500 and can still be found fairly easily.

Zombi 2 VHS edition
Over the last few years the company CMV has released a number of VHS editions mimicking the beloved format.  Unlike the current resurgence of video releases there's no real tape found inside.  Rather, a dvd along with a few other promotional materials are stored inside of a fake cardboard VHS tape.  No joke.

Aftermath 'Corpse' Edition
While I'm not the biggest fan of the short I can't say the same thing about this limited edition package.  Released by Dragon and limited to 3000, the set features a highly detailed corpse that's been flayed open in full disgusting detail.  The corpse rests inside of a metal case with an acrylic window...Perfect for family gatherings.  Inside the case you'll find a DVD and a full color booklet.

Cannibal Holocaust Statue Edition
This is another XT Video statue edition.  Limited to just 500, this is likely one of the more pricy selections of this list.  The discs are stored in the base along with a few pictures and other bonuses.  Unlike the Gates of Hell set this one does not come packed in a nice artwork-covered box, but a simple black package featuring the film's logo.

TCM Chainsaw edition
A copy of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre inside of a cardboard chainsaw?  Might not be the most original of ideas but it was certainly well executed.  The package features a few thick cardboard pages, each with different images.  It's very well done and best of all, it won't cost you an arm and a leg.  Click here to grab one!

Phantasm Sphere
In the UK Anchor Bay snagged the video rights to the four Phantasm films.  Brits would get this awesome replica of the famous sphere with the discs piled inside.  Americans were forced to import.  Considering AB's love of re-releasing titles I can't help but wonder why they never got around to giving US fans a similar set featuring the three films they had the American distribution rights to.   Maybe one day...

The Coffin Joe Trilogy
It was really hard choosing a coffin set as there have been plenty of them released over the years.  This was a trend that originally started during the VHS era with Fright Night 2,  Bram Stoker's Dracula, and a few other titles getting similar treatment.  Years later DVD would reign supreme giving American fans a Coffin Joe set followed by The Blind Dead collection.  Over in the UK Anchor Bay would release Coffin boxes of the Tigon Collection, the Amicus Collection, and the Pete Walker Collection.  Now with the Blu-ray format we're getting treated to even more limited Coffin editions.  I decided to go with the Coffin Joe Trilogy which was released by Fantoma in 2002.  Coffin Joe is very underappreciated, and it's kind of surprising that the US would be treated to such a cool set.  Three DVD's fit inside of the jumbo-sized coffin and each includes a nice little Ze Do Caixao comic book.

The Beyond Clackpack
For those unfamiliar with a Clackpack they're essentially a hardbox inside of a hardbox.  The Beyond clackpack was put out through XT Video and limited to a mere 333 units.  The film is one of Fulci's most notorious outings and gave way to some very cool posters, a number of which are represented in this set.  Personally I've always been fond of the Die Geisterstadt Der Zombies poster, lucky for me the people over at XT Video felt the same way.

The Walking Dead Season 2 Zombie Head
There are a lot of 'head' editions out there ranging from Predator to Caesar (POTA,) the most akin to our beloved genre is the one pictured above featuring the likeness of the RV Zombie from the first episode of The Walking Dead's second season..  A digipack is stored inside of the base which you can only gain access to "unlocking" the set with the screwdriver.  Pretty darn cool.

Evil Dead; Book of the Dead Edition
Out of all of the weird gimmick-laden releases I own I always seem to return to this one.  In 2002 this was the must-own release.  Right next to Shriek Show's much delayed Zombi 2 I can't think of any other DVD I anticipated quite as much.  Even with the last minute cancellation of Within The Woods this still managed to surpass all of my expectations and to this day is one of my most cherished collectibles.
