CMV Laservision - Nightmare City (Grossangriff Der Zombies) VHS edition

Proving once again that some of the best horror releases must be imported, CMV Laservision has given a number of beloved Italian Horror flicks a faux VHS release. Today I'll be doing an overview of their excellent VHS edition of Grossangriff Der Zombies AKA Nightmare City/City of the Walking Dead.

DST - Godzilla (1988) vinyl bank!

With Legendary Picture's Godzilla premiering in less than a month companies like Neca, Jakks Pacific, and Diamond Select Toys are gearing up for an onslaught of collectible tie ins. Meet Him and Die

Production Year: 1976
Release Date: 04/01/2014
Studio: Raro

Squibs, heists, and fist fights, Meet Him and Die is every bit the Poliziotteschi film that one would expect from the likes of Ray Lovelock (lead; Massimo Torlani) and Director Franco Prosperi. After a heist goes wrong Massimo is quickly hauled off to jail, but thankfully not everything is at it seems. Massimo is a actually a cop; deep undercover and fueled by revenge.

Death Waltz Recording Company - House by the Cemetery OST

With the huge resurgence of vinyl I think we all knew it was simply a matter of time before some cool company would come along and give the horror genre a bit of love.  Based in the UK, Death Waltz Recording Company have been putting out some of the coolest LP's money can buy.  Unfortunately my experience with them is limited to a mere two releases, though I will say those two releases are
exceptional and enough to earn my complete and unbridled support.

Cheap Thrills - Universal Monsters garage sale haul!

You never really know what you're going to find at Garage Sales.  Sometimes it's pure gold, other times it's some old lady trying to get rid of an old used enema kit (seriously.)  On my way home from Hastings yesterday afternoon my mom informed me there was a nearby garage sale that advertised old board games and toys.  While I didn't walk away with any vintage games, I did manage to find a handful of older Universal Monsters products.

These were not listed in the craigslist ad, he just happened to have a ton of these in his garage.  Multiples stacked on top of one another as if he'd stumbled upon the best goin' out of business sale ever.

Lust For Freedom

Production Year: 1987
Release Date: 04/08/2014
Studio: Vinegar Syndrome

Bad stereotypes, bad dialogue, and bad acting; Lust For Freedom is probably the best-worst Troma film you've never seen.  After a sting goes bad agent Melanie Coll (Gillian Kaites) goes on a brief hiatus to clear her head.  Unfortunately for her she's headed in the wrong direction and winds up a victim in a Female Prison/wrestling to the death scheme.  You read that correctly.

Once an officer of the law she now finds herself on the other side of the bars inhabiting the same space as the scum she once arrested.  The authority figures in the institution use a drug to keep the prisoners complacent and with her memory wiped and no contact with the outside world the officer only has one option.  She must fight her way out.

Creature From the Black Lagoon Aquarium ornament

Back in the 70's the company Penn Plax released a Creature From the Black Lagoon bubbling aquarium ornament, if found in good condition that particular collectible can fetch hundreds of dollars.

Recently it came to my attention that an eBay seller from Asia had a number of questionable Penn Plax "re-releases" (dated 1999) and was selling each for just under $20 shipped.  While people had varied luck getting the guy in good shape, I decided to go ahead and take a chance on the Creature collectible.

Before they were famous: Are you Afraid of the Dark & Goosebumps

Recently I decided to revisit two of my favorite childhood TV programs and I noticed two things.  One, they've aged surprisingly well, and two, I saw a handful of familiar faces.  After doing a bit of research I found that a number of now famous actors actual got an early start thanks to these two television shows.

Are You Afraid of the Dark ruled the 90's and as much as I loved Goosebumps, I feel AYAOTD's output was just a bit better.  The show also had a longer reign meaning quite a number of actors would show up throughout the seasons.
